What’s the deal with Playstation Home?
Lately I have been playing (probably way too much) Playstation Home. At first, I thought it was simply a silly PS3 Second Life rip off for the truly socially inept, and though it still kind of is, it is much much more. It is a free “beta” version of a virtual world you can inhabit. According to Sony… “PlayStation®Home is a social gaming network where gamers can meet friends and play games. From originals like the 50-level tank combat shooter Sodium One to immersive spaces packed with games and exclusive content, PlayStation®Home provides players with a rich and dynamic gaming experience only possible on the PlayStation®3.”
After learning the social norms and understanding what the etiquette of the various locations are, I have found the experience quite engaging and I keep coming back for more. I have met people from all over the world, i.e., North America, Mexico, Puerto Rico, England, United Arab Emirates…to name a few. We talk about culture, we dance silly dances. We play free games of pool or chess. People can come to your place and have a dance party or play any number of arcade and classic style games you can purchase for your own space.
Which leads me to this… the purchases. Though the software is free and has been in “beta” version for years, and it reached 17 million users by the end of 2010, a very large number of them purchase add-on content for their user. While offering a free piece of software, Sony is riding a big fat cash cow into the sunset on all the content purchased via pre-paid cards. Not that I have not participated in this bloated bovine. If you spend enough time in PS Home you will want some of the cool stuff too! I just wish I wasn’t spending money on a Beta Test.
Here is a short video to give you a taste of the experience:
Who you gunna call? AC/DC!
I don’t know why, and I don’t really care, but this works. I really dig the guitar and synth hooks happening at the same time. What do you think about mash-ups? What’s your favorite? Post a link, tell me why you like it.
Harry Potter 7 p1 Hype
We’ve got the bug. The Tron household has it, big time! I’ll admit, we did not hop on the wagon at the beginning, but slowly the stories took hold. By the “Sixth Year” we were certainly hooked. Not just the movies mind you, the books are great-and I stray from the “happenin’ things.”
These are some of the best adaptations I’ve seen in a long time. Ok, ok, I’ve not completed the full series of books yet – I have a job and such and I told you I started late – but what I’ve read so far, there has been a very true, story-to-story effort made. So many movies start off so well, and then, the wheels fall off (I’m looking at you, Lord of the Rings, Dune, Hitch Hikers Guide…. Really, the list goes on and on…). Sure some things were altered to fit the screen, but from what I have read, Harry Potter, the movies, has been staying faithful to Harry Potter, the books. If you’ve not watched or read any, you still have time. The Deathly Hallows pt. 1 comes out this November. Start reading, start watching. This S##t is gunna be big.
Die Roadrunner Die
Just to be fair, I posted a rather funny Family Guy bit. Oh what happens when we get our way… Be careful what you wish for.
Lego Star Wars and the Hoth Hotel
Apparently the Family Guy did something similar. I don’t really care, I still think this is pretty funny.
The Terry Jones Venn Diagram
With one post I will violate the “no religion, no politics” rule. But, hey, it’s my blog so I can do that. This graphic is just funny, unless of course you have respect for Pastor Terry Jones in which case that is for you to sort out. If you don’t know who this guy is by this point, you do not pay attention (to anything) as he has been ALL OVER THE PLACE!
“Nothing Good Happens After Midnight”
I wise man once said that “nothing good happens after midnight.” Of course that’s debatable, but ass the photos below will show you, adults up late+children’s toys=hijinks. Personally, I consider this art, in the Dada vein. Post-Modern-Dadaism.

Dancing Merengue Dog
Just like the Mudshark, this video is sweeping the nation. OK, so the Mudshark, technically swept the ocean, but who’s counting. Anyway, this dancing dog video is one of the longest dog tricks I’ve ever seen.
Pablo Francisco, stand up comedy
This is some funny stuff. Do you ever wonder what death metal singers are going on about? Have you ever asked yourself, “why all the piercings?” I know I used to ask about the band Korn, “why are they so angry?” and I never did find out. In fact, I just lost interest. Well, Pablo Francisco does a good bit about this in the following video. Everything from the singing to the metal in the lips. “IIIIZZZA GORZZZIIIZAAAAA!”
